| You use 128bit encryption, other service providers offer 256bit to 2048bit encryption. Is 128bit encryption safe?
We have seen these offers aswell, however we believe they are offering false hope at the moment. What needs to be understood about 128bit encryption is what it exactly means. 128 bit encryption is the equivalent of 128 to the power of 128 multiplied by 127 to the power of 127 multiplied by 126 to the power of 126 and so on until you get all the way down to multiplied by 1 to the power of 1.
It is quite simply an off the wall number, it is mind boggling huge! to go to 129bit encryption would not double the number but multiply 128bit by 129 to the power of 129. This is trillions of trillions of trillions times bigger than 128bit encryption. In the case of 256bit it is NOT double 128bit but longer than the age of the Universe in micro seconds multiplied by the total amount of grains of sand on every beach on the earth.
Another point is that all server software, i.e. Microsoft 2003 Server, OS Server, Unix and so forth only have settings up to 128bit security. So we are not quite sure how you can get 2048bit encryption!!
